Mourinho added of the comments, when Pogba did not refer to the manager: “I don't care. I repeat: I want him to play well, I want him to play for that team, the fans, and that is what it is.
He's working extremely well here but I have to say in his defence, write what you want about him, me, please don't say lies, don't put him in a situation that people can think he's not a polite, educated guy, he is. He never had a fight with me.”
Mourinho said he had “never been so happy” with Pogba who will retain the captaincy against Brighton on Sunday having led the team against Leicester in the absence of Antonio Valencia who is back in training – along with Nemanja Matic - but not yet fit enough to play. Jesse Lingard is in contention to start at the Amex where United lost last season.

Mourinho has defended his relationship with Paul Pogba and revealed that
the only player fined at Manchester United since he became manager was
Anthony Martial.
Mourinho said he did not understand what Pogba meant when he claimed, following the 2-1 win over Leicester City last Friday, that “there are things I cannot say otherwise I will get fined”.
That was understandably interpreted as a sign of strain in the relationship between Mourinho and Pogba, who has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona, but the manager strongly refuted there was a problem or that the pair had clashed.
He did reveal that Martial had been fined after not returning to training when he left United’s pre-season tour to the United States early to attend the birth of his son. Martial has wanted to leave United because of his lack of game time.
“You have to ask Paul,” Mourinho said, when asked if he had spoken to Pogba to explain his comments when the midfielder also discussed the need to be happy.
“I'm here for two years and a couple of months and the only player that was fined was Anthony Martial, so is not easy to be fined here, so you have to ask him.
I'm not going to ask him. I want him to work the way he is doing and play the way he is doing and that's all that matters.”
