Tottenham captain Hugo Lloris is facing a drink drive court case after being pulled over in the early hours near upmarket London nightspots.

The France goalkeeper, a World Cup winner just a month ago, spent a night in a cell after failing a breath test during a routine stop in Marylebone, nearby the Premier League's headquarters.

Lloris, who could face potential disciplinary action in addition to a court case, was forced to miss
training while he was charged on Friday morning following seven hours in custody.

The incident surrounding the senior Spurs star disrupted Mauricio Pochettino's preparations for Tottenham's trip to Manchester United on Bank Holiday Monday, but the Frenchman is still expected to start.

The 31-year-old father of two was taken to Charing Cross police station where he was put in a cell after fingerprints and a DNA swab were taken.

Scotland Yard confirmed he will appear in court next month, two days after he returns from international duty with Uefa Nations League matches against Germany and Holland.

A Metropolitan Police statement said : “A man has been charged following a routine patrol stop in Gloucester Place, W1. Hugo Lloris, 31, of East Finchley, was charged with drink driving on Friday, 24 August. He has been bailed to return to Westminster magistrates’ court on Tuesday 11 September.”

Lloris, who signed a new £150,000-per-week deal at Tottenham this summer,  was selected in FIFA's team of the World Cup, despite gifting Croatia a goal before his side lifted the trophy.

Away from the pitch, the family man is rarely seen in the limelight. Lloris is married to his childhood sweetheart Marine and lives in a gated property close to North London’s exclusive Bishop’s Avenue.

Dressed in a black shirt over a white T-shirt and ripped designer jeans, he gave no comment to reporters as he returned home on foot at 11am.

Tottenham have yet to comment on the incident. The former Nice player has been at the club since 2012, making 254 appearances.
